Come to Our Organizing Meeting – Guest Speaker!

An urgent ask: if you can, please come to our organizing meeting this Saturday at 3:30pm (RSVP here). We have a guest speaker: Margaret Abe-Koga, County Supervisor for District 5 and former mayor of Mountain View. She’ll talk about how to save our local hospitals and access to healthcare that are being cut by the Trump regime.

Only a few dozen people have RSVPd so far. If you know anyone else in Santa Clara County, please let them know about this event!

Prop.50 Canvassing Starts!

Earlier on Saturday is the first of our Prop.50 canvassing events in Mountain View / Los Altos: Sept.27, 9:30am–1pm at the Eagle Park. Please sign up if you can join us to talk to voters!

No Kings Day 2.0 – Still Need Volunteers

We still need (a lot more!!) volunteers for No Kings Day 2.0! Have you signed up yet?

Can you flyer to spread the word? Can you assist the people who'll be writing postcards in the park? Can you tell people about Andor and how it connects to our current reality? Can you help run the free speech activity? Can you help set up the tables? Etc, etc, etc. We need you!

Signs of Solidarity: Help Protect Workers from ICE

People in our group are starting to help protect vulnerable workers from ICE in our community ("Signs of Solidarity"). It's very straightforward: you stake your segment of a nearby part of town, you get from me the signs that clearly demarcate employees-only space which restricts warrantless ICE from entering, walk your segment and tell businesses how they can protect their workers with this simple sign, and report back. Please consider being part of this project and let me know!

Still Fighting the Kimmel Censorship

You've all, I'm sure, seen the saga with the Kimmel Show. Although ABC brought him back, there are still stations (owned by Nexstar & Sinclair) that are refusing to run the show. One of our volunteers, Mike C., watched the 10 o' Clock News on KRON4 owned by Nexstar a few days ago and documented these advertisers (the asterisk means a local business):

• *Mike Counsil Plumbing

You can write them a letter. Here are two sample versions:

Sample Letter #1

To: [CEO], [CFO], [Head of Marketing] It has come to my attention that COMPANY NAME is running ads on KRON4's 10 PM news broadcast. While the KRON4 team is putting together an excellent broadcast highlighting the damage that recent political actions have caused, KRON4 is owned by Nexstar -- a media corporation that has refused to air Jimmy Kimmel Live on its ABC stations even though ABC reinstated him. This is a deliberate act of censorship that silences a comedian for political reasons. Unfortunately, that means that COMPANY's ads are funding a media corporation that is choosing to suppress free speech. As someone who values both local businesses and open dialogue, I hope you will reconsider whether this is the best place for your advertising dollars. I want to continue supporting local companies like yours -- but I also want to spend money with businesses that stand up for free expression rather than reward those who stifle it. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, [Your Name]

Sample Letter #2

To: [CEO], [CFO], [Head of Marketing] I am deeply concerned to learn that your company is running advertisements on KRON4, a station owned by Nexstar Media Group. Nexstar has repeatedly used its platform to undermine free expression under the First Amendment and erode the foundations of our democracy, as shown by its viewpoint-based discrimination against the Jimmy Kimmel Live show. Because of this, I cannot in good conscience support a company that chooses to advertise with them. Until your company demonstrates that its corporate values align with the values of democracy, I will encourage others to consider alternatives. If you choose to stop advertising on Nexstar-owned outlets, please notify me so that I may reconsider supporting your business in the future. Sincerely, [Your Name and Contact Information]
